The world is full of information. Everywhere we go there is something new to be learned. But who’s to say what’s true and what isn’t? Most of us live our entire lives reading newspapers and watching TV without ever really thinking about the information being beamed into our frontal lobes. We are willing to accept the opinions of the mainstream media without asking ourselves if this information is really true. These times are coming to an end. The human race is enduring an important change process, fueled in part by an age outlined by self destruction and war. A new era of change is beginning and we must ask ourselves if we are willing to change with it. The time has come to open our eyes and follow our hearts, for there is much more to our lives than we may wish to think.

End-Date 2012

As we now know, the Maya placed extreme importance upon the December solstice of 2012. Their intricate study of galactic time led them to the conclusion that our solar system rotates around our galactic center, a process which takes nearly 26,000 solar years. They recognized this “galactic year” as the highest order of time, and were able to calculate the rate of precession with which our solar system moves through the Milky Way. This realization eventually became the center of Mayan life and beliefs.

Brunnen 183 is evicted!

Brunnen 183, one of Berlin’s longest standing housing-projects, was evicted on Tuesday the 24th of November 2009. Approximately 600 police officers gathered around 14 Uhr in order to gain access to the building. They spent the rest of the afternoon gathering the 21 squatters and guests present at the time, making several arrests, knocking out the windows and utterly devastating the former inhabitants. Despite all of this the squatters remained peaceful while trying to avoid an escalation of the situation.

Maya Creation Myths & Mythology

As in any sophisticated culture, the Maya had a unique mythological interpretation. They believed that all life on Earth followed distinct cycles, including everything from the human gestation period (which was tracked by the 260 day Tzolk’in calendar) to the precession of the equinoxes over a period of almost 26,000 years. Mayan mythology can be directly interpreted as having a deeper astronomical meaning, with all deities and gods referring to certain stars, constellations or astronomical occurences.

The precession of the equinoxes or galactic precession is a term used to describe the path traveled by our sun through the Milky Way galaxy. That’s right, our sun is not, as some might think, a stationary object or the center of the galaxy around which all other celestial bodies revolve. In fact, it is a relatively large satellite which revolves around the center of our galaxy, as our planet revolves around the sun. Studies of ancient Mayan culture demonstrate their knowledge of this galactic precession, which can be seen in everything from their mythology to architectural structures.

Up until the middle-ages, it was common belief that the earth was the center of our solar system, and our sun revolved around the earth. Of course, humans also believed that the earth was flat (and some Amazonian tribes still do!). At least 1000 years earlier, it was common knowledge that the earth is in fact round (no, it’s not a disc supported by 4 elephants and a giant turtle), and that all celestial bodies in our galaxy are in constant motion. But how did the ancient cultures come to this conclusion?
